SUPPA DOMENICO
(syllabus)
The selected topics are intended to provide a body of knowledge in Political economy, which is useful for interdisciplinary studies. This educational approach should be able to add value to the humanistic formation, particularly in fields of economics and law. Therefore, for the student, it is proposed a learning process centered on standard concepts of Economic policy (social choices, social welfare, market regulation, effectiveness of economic policies, providing references to the current debate on these subjects). The IS-LM and AS-AD models are presented in detail with application to fiscal and monetary policies: in conditions of economic crisis and in economic systems that are open or closed to trade with foreign countries (also valuating conseguences of tariffs on international trade respect to the social welfare). The last part of the course deals with the themes of inflation, unemployment and the temporal coherence of economic policy with particular regard to the establishment of the European Central Bank. Some attention is dedicated to the relationship between inequality and economic development.
